But only for the last 10 years, in the episode when Shurik comes to Oak for notes, I listen intently – I try to make out what it is that Oak is listening to. Either “Bon-Cleaver”, or “Ban-Cleaver”.And just today I finally figured out that the phrase can be found on the Internet…. (drumroll):– Oak! Is there a summary?- I don’t have any notes, don’t interfere.- What are you listening to?- Van Cliburn. Go!Naturally, I immediately check who Van Cliburn. It turns out that he is an American pianist who miraculously won the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow in 1958 and thereby instantly became famous in his homeland and in the USSR.It turns out that Oak was “listening” to classical music. And we (my fellow students and I) in our distant student years all wondered what kind of rock band it was that they advertised it in Soviet cinema (The Adventures of Shurik appeared on the screen in 1965). Why we decided that “Bon-Cliver” is a rock band is hard to explain, probably a stereotype (we considered ourselves avid rockers, hee-hee-hee).
